The Smithsonian Museum of Art (among many other institutions including the American Folk Art Museum) has a terrific collection of his work

The old black painted wood frame shows some dings

It's got a great patina and a couple of little chips in the wood that I think just add to its character

from whatever materials they had at hand--but my guess is that this small lidded box is an example

I assume mid-20th century or so

It is in such pristine condition it looks as if it might have been done yesterday, but the absence of the J and U, the fraktur style lettering of the first half (through to the M, then changing style with the N) and the round hand of the second half all seem right to
